I have discovered three important principles in community building through dialogue: transparency, inclusion and empowerment. In my time at Lehigh, I’ve worked hard at building trust with individuals and groups by strict adherence to these. It requires lots of patience and positive thinking. I’ve also seen the power of the “refrigerator moment” Maybe I’ll blog about that soon.
can I get a copy of your paper? I would love to read your perspectives on community building through dialogue. Especially since you’re one of the engaged people at Lehigh.

You posted this a while ago, but I would still like to comment. Rankings are real BS. Lehigh counts in the top in one, between 400-500 in one international ranking, and is not even recognized in another. Where are we?

Well… we are what we are, and the unfortunate part about rankings is that the administration begins to believe their own spin, when they broadcast the ranking results. With this rather large splinter in their eye, it is very hard for them to come up with some meaningful internal evaluations of their own strengths and weakness. We should be looking a being a better Lehigh, improving our shortcomings, rather than being on some stupid rankings list.
